Eatin' in...like "real" firemen...I did that once when I was still in fire school...the chest pains later were not worth it.

that was just terrible positioning of the attack line.

Canman, being a rook and curious like I am, why do you say that is bad positioning of the attack line? I was under the understanding never to attack directly from the front or back due to struts and bumpers that shoot off. And I was assuming that the attack crew here was attempt to cool the more fire laden passenger compartment in order to get to the engine compartment to extinguish that.

Just to follow up Lurker's chest pains comment; in my prior career selling welding equipment, I found out that the sheet metal workers, also known as "tin knockers", would suffer similar symptoms whenever they were welding galvanized...that is steel with a thin coating of tin to keep it from rusting. Seems the tin fumes generated by the high heat would severely irritate the lungs and cause chest pains. Just for informational purposes, modern automobile bodies are made with "galvanneal steel", a variation of the same material...
Just one more reason to use SCBA....why take the chance?

the otherside of the vehicle up wind would have been a much better place to have positioned the attack line since they opt not to wear a scba to extinguish the fire. imagine all of the nasty sh!t they were breathing in for what reason makes no sense. hope i have cleared up any confussion that i meant when i posted that comment. just following in line with lurkers comment on chest pains.

not only what Marc said about positioning the line there, but then they made that push on it instead of using the reach of the stream to stay out of the smoke.

According to an FDIC speaker, the firefighters in question were recent graduates of the local academy which had failed to mention that PPE isn't flameproof.
And we wonder why......

The lives of firefighters isn't a critical situation?

This is a personal pet peeve that resulted in me writing PSE&G a scathing letter because their lineman ignored my repeated requests to cut power to a burning house (that our firefighters were inside) but instead, waste his friggin time repairing a line down the street so the %^&*($#@ "customers" wouldn't complain.
To say I was absolutely livid would be a classic understatement. This is a prime example of corporate greed outweighing firefighter safety, something I cannot tolerate even a little.
Amid a stream of invectives and expletives deleted (during which I compared his IQ to his shoe size), I asked the gentleman a somewhat pointed question: "Aren't WE customers too?"
There is absolutely NO reason whatsoever for this shit to take place.
