This is exactly what Papa Cheese has been preaching. Good clear communications of what strategy is being employed.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about! Good "risk management profiling" and as 02 said, clear, concise communication so that everyone's on the same page...what's not to like? Awesome video....I need a copy of it!
On a serious note, two things caught my attention watching this video:
1) The importance of someone maintaining an "overwatch" position to monitor the whole picture....
2) What if that bowstring was disguised by a false roof or high parapet? Knowing your local is critical. We have a former bowling alley in Motown that, even though it's not a bowstring, begs the question: how did they span that great open distance inside the building to allow for alleys when it was built? Answer, I'm not sure, but whatever they used can't be too strong in a fire.
As Chief Brunicini says: "It's not OK to die in a structure fire"

As Chief Brunicini says: "It's not OK to die in a structure fire" I think one of the most impressive things is the fact that the whole Phoenix Dept has bought into that premise. It was refreshing to hear one officer after another reinforcing the fact that we no longer risk our lives for a structure that will be knocked down by the insurance company.

Got this link from the secret list. Kinda funny. There are a few from Fresno that are put together nicely. Great job to them for getting their messages out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqIE5lnsGrw

The chief's calmness on the radio set the tone for the whole incident. Very good video

Excellent Make the Call example....several things caught my attention during the course of this incident:
1) Obviously the IC's calm and methodical approach set a great tone for the crews...as well as gave them clear, concise information regarding their assignments.
2) Their approach from the D side stairway allowed them to push the fire back as well as (I'm guessing here) hook the ceiling as they advanced, cutting off the cockloft void as a threat.
3) Awesome example of company assignments as designed: engine to stretch lines, truck to open/vent, and rescue to search. Classic textbook!

This came off Firehouse.com: www.thebostonchannel.com/video/15405445/index.html?taf=bosAnother reason why this evolution SHOULD be practiced with the proper precautions....I'm sure this guy didn't think he'd need it. Also the segment is a bonus for the "Reading Smoke" fan: CLASSIC example of pre-flashover conditions (recite to yourself: Volume, Velocity, Density, and Color).
