273 was a sub station that was created when their was turnmoil with the Rancocas fire company and the township. They ran out of a bay set up in a local warehouse on Highland drive. Very limited membership and response. Eventually 271 was closed, then 279 and 273 not far behind.

I knew that they existed but never knew the story behind them.

I knew that they existed but never knew the story behind them. They were a substation of 272 technically. Even though the Westampton Township Fire Department and Emergency Unit is Incorperated and still conducts routine business, the building, rigs, equipment, insurance... well just about everything is owned and operated by the Township of Westampton, under the name "Westampton Township Emergency Services." When 271 was cut off from the township, the township pulled the township owned equipment, including Engine 2711 and created the substation as the chief stated until 272 could properly assume total responsibility for coverage of the township. Now it's just 272. Technically speaking, 278 is just a number for dispatch purposes... they could change the ambulances over to 272 numbers and we would be perfectly fine with that. (But that's a county thing) This is why you will hear most 272 members refer to the company as simply 27 because it's the only service for the entire township and the "2" isn't really necessary except to fit into the county's system.

Here is a factory photo of 2711/2731 that I snagged off of another website. This'll do until I get the better posed picture from my friend.

I always found it great that the Chassis was made in Westampton (Pemfab) driven all the way to Clinton OK to Boardman for the body, then back to Westampton. That's 2500 miles just for fabrication! I always liked the headlights being on the bumper, especially with todays rigs having the bumper clutter that blocks the headlights.

Here's a pic I found on my computer from last summer I believe. It is L5015 (then 5025) and retired L2515 (former 7015) flying Old Glory. I don't know the specifics of the pic, I just think it looks nice. Unknown photographer Thats my photo from when 2515 and 5015 set up in front of the Episcopal Church in Mt Holly, 2007 for their "Blue Mass". PatMahan- 252

wow. i'm definitly not feeling the color of that one. was paint not in the budget when they got it? FM27 response, 10-24-08. I am the person in the cab of the truck. The engine is a 1965 Mack, 1000GPM, 3rd. stage HP pump, 500 water. That color was the Good Intents color since the first motorized trucj arrived in 1917 in Mt. Holly. It was the only truck that color in NJ for many years. Thanks for everyone's interest. The truck left Mt. Holly in 1986 when we received our Pierce Dash, same color. Pierce's color designation was "Fleet Tan". The original color designation was "French Gray". John Augustino. ex-chief Mt. Holly.

I can help you further narrow down the year to 1978-1981... Was this by chance the parade for the old CF Heavy Rescue that's now in Pennsauken? Papacheese - I know this is during your prime time... help us out here! I would have to say that the parade is 1979 or later, as 8017(ex-8016) is a 1979 Dodge Power Wagon. It could be the housing for it. As I recall, the CF Heavy Rescue 8019 was a 1975, as was housed in the Summer/Fall of that year. After '79, the next apparatus wouldn't be purchased untill 1984, a Pierce Arrow pumper. HTH. David

In the interests of historical accuracy, no...I was not present at the housing of 3117, the 1964 Chevy/Allegheny Body Works utility truck that TF25 posted and my good buddy hp4l opined upon. Actually, I was in fourth grade at that time. Also in the interest of accuracy, 3117 was the first apparatus I ever drove....around 1974. Six cylinder manual chassis, with walk-in body that had four high-pressure breathing air bottles inside for cascading. Changing the bottles always required three guys, a small animal, and a hernia operation afterwards. Funny story: we used to have a member who for reasons known only to him would sleep off his Saturday night visit to Otts on the bench seat in the back of 17. One Sunday morning we get a call and as I turn out of the station, hear a loud thump in the back. Thinking it was something loose, I continued to the call and parked the truck. While sitting there, I look in the mirror and see the firefighter emerge from the back with a look that could kill. "Next time, slow down when you're leaving the firehouse". Chief! I always thought its radio number was 3118, and then 3129 for a brief time when the 1980 Mack/Swab came into being..... 3129 is an inside joke for the Ahrens-Fox folks at 312 who can remember it......
