yet another...411 gets called into dist 46 for a building at a restaurant at lunchtime. 4112 is first due, and our crew goes inside for a reported stove fire. we go in and the stove was definately on fire due to the glow from the doorway. the other thing we saw from the doorway was that the restaurant was still packed, and they were just telling the people they couldnt order off of the menu of the stuff that was cooked at this stove. we evacuated the place, and upon asking the owner why he didnt evacuate, he said "well, that woulda been bad for business..."

Back in 1997 (I think) (GotWork, Lurker??)
TF12 ran a first thing in the morning house fire on Monroe Drive in Edgewater Park.
When we got there with 1215, we were detailed to open the roof and what not. So we stick'd it, and got up there with the K12 saw. My partner was making the first cut when the saw bound up. Turns out it was a T-Shirt the saw grabbed from below. So he starts cutting again and grabs another. Clears the saw out and goes for the third cut, this timing it grabbed and sucked out a hot pink big 'ole bra. That bra jammed the saw up good.
SO - admist all the laughter (It's not often I'm serious about anything), we finished the roof the old fashioned way with axes. Once we removed the roof piece, barely any smoke was coming through. So my partner lays down and pokes his head in and here this attic was so jammed full of shit that there was no way any ventilation was going to happen. We litterally pulled a few boxes and bags of clothes out and tossed them off the back of the roof.
By the time we got the roof open, most of the fire was handled, and there was really no point in what we were doing.
What I would've done for a video camera for this one.

I dont care who you are, THATS DAMN FUNNY! Yeah, funny ha ha, glad I'm here for your amusement. This fire was early in the morning after we had a meeting the night before about FAST/RIT responses and the need to stick to being RIT and not freelancing. However, in retrospect, this was before it became accepted practice for the RIT crews to assist with such tasks as throwing ground ladders for access/egress and associated tasks. This fire was December 27 of either 2000 or 2001 if I remember correctly. It was long ago that Wylie III was 1200, well before becomming 2700. 2001, I had just gotten off duty in D32, and Gump was Da' Chief.

Sean's story reminded me of something vaguely familiar that happened during one of the many Village of Burning Apartment Buildings incidents (Stoney Run).
After doing our best to contain the fire to one building, the crews were overhauling an apartment and came across a rather substantial collection of adult auto-erotic implements. Being good-natured lads, of course they felt compelled to share their delightful discovery with all the troops assembled in the immediate area with copious commentary and much arm waving. Of course all of us present enjoyed this most special of Kodak moments.
Fast forward about fifteen minutes; while still standing out in front and observing the continued progress of the crews, I suddenly realized that a rather pleasant looking woman was standing next to me, staring somewhat forelornely at the smoking remains and declaring angrily: "My God! That's MY apartment! Was anything saved?"
Being of Irish descent, it's not often that I find myself at a loss for words, but that was one memorable occassion I luckily kept my lip firmly buttoned.

Continuing the "funny war story" theme....this actually happened.
One and a half story "bungalow" style home, fire in kitchen/dining area. Myself and another firefighter made entry through the Division C door, which like most in these style homes, opened onto a landing from which you could either walk up to the kitchen or down to the basement. Of course we were heading up.
Anyway, we open the door and slide in, then as the smoke began banking down quite nicely in the kitchen, started donning our masks.
Just then, the homeowner's telephone...which for some unknown reason she had placed on the steps, began ringing. We just looked at each other for a long moment, silently asking each other the obvious question: "Are you gonna get that?". Gary decided he would.
"Hello?....No, she's not here...yes, we know..."
Laughing uproariously, we finished donning our masks and putting out the fire. The moment we were outside, I had to ask what had transpired. "It was a neighbor..", Gary laughed, "Calling to tell her that her house was on fire..."

A couple of months ago I was the Officer of the truck and we were on a call that we needed central to activate our knox box. After the knox box key was released I got off of the truck my radio was on the response channel and not ops. I heard my driver state to central on the response channel that the knox cock i mean knox box key was realeased. Needless to say I had some trouble keeping a straight face for the rest of the call.

Last sunday in D. 41 we got hit for a transformer, and upon arrival walk over to where 4100 was and see something steaming on the ground. The something was a well done squirrel that messed with the transformer and lost. It landed on the frost covered ground and was thawing it quite nicely...

GOT 4WD? In defense of the Chauffer, he was following his orders. He even asked, "Are you sure?" before doing it. The set-back if that house is at least 100' and the hope was to get it a good bit closer. Unfortunately, that is where the front lawn quit on us.

We had a similar incident here in the 25 over by where hp4l used to live some time ago. This one resulted in a power outage and a barbequed raccoon.

I'm waiting for the 122 rebuttle... 1222 had some excellent positioning the other day for the Church Street fire, but they didn't get stuck. (The PS Gas man was not happy though)

Didnt mean any harm by posting the photo, but it seem to fit the funny things seen catagory. Disclaimer: The positionof the rig in this photo was the result of the chauffer following an order. This done in an attempt to minimize the initial hose stretch. Quick knock down was achieved by the Brothers in the 20.
