Bill A-1961 This bill would require paid and volunteer firefighters to obtain "Firefighter I" certification from the DFS before engaging in fire suppression, firefighting, or fire rescue.
I have to say its a shame that this wasn't passed prior to now. This has been in the register I do believe since 1994 and has yet to get passed. So in some towns you have people operating in structure fires that do not currently and have never had any or very little live fire training. After teaching in certain counties you realize how true this is.

That's just stupid. It should've been passed many moons ago. A state certification should be mandatory to engage in fire suppression. I don't think companies can make that mandatory, if they can, do it.
All I can say is....welcome to New Jersey!

Motown (like many others) independently adopted the requirement as part of the membership process; a new member has one year to complete FF1.

The Magic Kingdom has also adopted a policy of 1 year to complete FF#1 training and no interior FF until it is complete.

I think its funny that the State will debate both A1961 and A2097 at the same time. Makes you wonder if they even READ the text before pontificating on it.
Oh and MTL is the same way: No FF1: No IDLH.
