More importantly, Reading Smoke takes practice, practice, practice (hence the MTC series).

PapaCheese, You are a fan? ?? Who'd a thunk it? ?? ;D LMAO Seriously, if no one has had the opportunity to see this program, you don't know what you are missing. If you can't catch Dodson, by all means hook up with PapaCheese, I am sure he would be more than willing to give his presentation. (Papa, I hope you don't mind me volunteering your services.)

Not at all, 02...one of the things that most impressed me was Dodson giving out his Power Point willingly to help make sure the word got out...the DVD is just icing on the cake and makes the presentation that much easier for me. I've given the program to a number of departments over the years and am always up for another get together.

Reading smoke is something papacheese has always pushed with training and for a good reason. If you have the chance to see it you must it will help you in doing a 360 of the fire grounds and also to continue monitoring the fire during the suppression stages. You can always learn something and could be the littlest thing but as long as you are still learning.

Papacheese,
Just visited MLFD and gave the program. As usual it was a fine job of instruction with some good input from the class.
I have had the Dodson program at FDIC but it seems like every time I sit through the program again I pick up something else. Good job on changing the pictures and videos from the last class I took. This keeps it fresh. The DVD was a nice addition and I am sure it helps with the old voice box.
I also had him teach the program at Westampton when I was the Training Officer. This is good information for all firefighters. Take advantage of this program.

This is going to sound self-serving, but it's my firm belief that Chief Dodson's "Reading Smoke" program is one of the finest safety tools available for ALL fire personnel, regardless whether you're the rawest boot or most experienced firefighter or fire officer out there. In this day and age of shitty construction and dwellings stuffed to the gills with solid gasoline products, knowing what to expect is the first - and most important - factor in making sure we return home with everyone,
I taken my fair share of classes over the years and there are two I would ALWAYS recommend to anyone:
Reading Smoke
Chief John Norman (FDNY) Fire Officer Tactics
Dodson combined up his smoke reading program with basic and important size-up skills in another program "The Art of First Due", another one that's highly valuable for everyone, not just officers.

What were everyone's thoughts on this presentation? This was my first time seeing any of the Reading Smoke presentations and I feel that I learned a lot from it.

Being my second time seeing his web cast I think it was a great review as well as another great learning opportunity. I must say he has a great way of teaching the material. I think the videos were a great teaching tool that helped to convey what he was saying instead of going here is a picture and it is going to flash. I hope he dose more presentations like this on-line or even maybe I'll get a chance to got to one of his classes.
