This is good to see!!! Doesn't NJ already have something similar to this as well? In October 2007, Senator Thomas Carter (D-DE) and Representative Robert Andrews (D-NJ-1) introduced S.2240 and H.R.1643 respectively (see link below for full text). This bill has become known as The Volunteer Firefighter and EMS Personnel Job Protection Act . Currently, this proposal has been referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee for further review and discussion. This bill prohibits any employee from being terminated, demoted, or discriminated against in the terms or conditions of employment because the employee is absent or late as a result of serving as a volunteer firefighter or providing volunteer emergency medical services as part of a response to an emergency or major disaster. I urge you to contact your legislators in the House of Representatives and Senate and ask them to cosponsor this bill which will protect our dual lives as both emergency response personnel and working professionals. This bill does not yet have enough sponsorship to warrant a vote which would enact this into public law. Please help make a difference and contact your Congressmen and Senators. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about how you can take part in active legislation.
