i kno this is been a problem in vollys but who eles has a problem with members picking and choosing there calls they want to run. i have this problem in mt holly fd. i also run with westampton but when u take time to get out of bed for a b.s alarm or a pump out and its just you and a driver and no chiefs what do you do? Would you let the next town take it? But when westampton takes Mt holly calls they caplan and its b.s... i dont understand why when a nother town is dispatched to handle it why cant they still go and add to the manpower.
who eles has this problems and how did you fix it?

It's everywhere. every one has it, don't anyone tell me you don't cause your lieing. Unless your career and have the trucks staffed 24/7/365. How to fix it? Simple, when they show up to participate in fun company functions, don't let them. Have the officer(s) revoke their privilege to attend company functions (as long as it isn't training!) And tell them why. Some might say that's too hard but hey, if they know why they can't attend the fun things, and they WANT to, they'll fix it on their own. Some others just pick and choose and aren't really active firefighters/emts/whatever. If the department has a policy on keeping percentages up to ride and they fall under, that's their own fault and again, if they REALLY want to ride, they'll fix it on their own. Off the soapbox..

I have seen this in the past with other departments that I belonged to. The best way to try to fix it is to come up with a duty crew program. If the members are in the station, they can't pick and choose. It's unfortunate that people won;t come out for an alarm system at 2AM, but as soon as it gets upgraded, you will dump the stations.

While it is not the ideal situation that we must handle BS calls that some do not want to run and we may voice those opinions amongst the crew doing the deed, we are not going to stop assisting where help is needed. Our department was not like it is now just a short time ago. We would have other departments handling our BS jobs. So before you air it out that we are complaining (i think thats what you were spelling) please take a deep breathe and seperate yourself from being a Mount Holly FF and be a Westampton FF. You sound like we have a problem handling it when it may be that you were upset that Mt Holly didn't get out and could have given additional manpower with the driver and one that may have been there. WE WILL ALWAYS DO WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET THE JOB DONE NO MATTER HOW BIG OR SMALL - PERIOD!!!!!

We have that where I am and like everyone else has said, it is every where. We have guys who come up write there name down and leave. There is a multitude of problems that unfortunately exist and will exist for a long time.

As many of you said, it's a universal problem which can be traced back to why a person joined in the first place...
We will never be rid of lawn ornaments...they thrive on LOOKING like a firefighter but not PERFORMING as one. The only thing we can do is recognize that they exist and hold their feet to the fire: if you want to dress up like firefighter, try BEING a firefighter.

Welcome to the Home Response/Sandbox-Based Fire & EMS Model. There is nothing you can or anyone else can do to change it. I ask you to read the rules of the forum. If you have already read the rules, then I encourage you to read them again. By your wording, you are using two departments against each other. In doing so, you are running the risk at causing an issue between two departments that do ALOT to assist each other and work hand in hand, and this is something THAT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THIS FORUM SITE. This is not what we are here for. If I had noticed this posting prior to it receiving several replys, it would have been removed.
