If you could do/could have done one thing different in the fire service what would it have been and why?
Just trying to pull a little interesting tidbits from people to hopefully help others, I'll start with mine.
1. Drove too fast going down a side street where kids usually play because it was night so I figured that it'd be okay. The adrenaline got to me for a dwelling. Nothing happened but I got a reaming for it, and rightfully so.
2. I heard from a senior member that per the NJ Motor Vehicle Code that first responders with blue lights can proceed through a stop light once all traffic has stopped and yielded you the right of way. I was also corrected on this, and since unplug my blue light and red lights.
Suffice it to say, my driving has been tamed with a little advisement haha. But its good that I learned the things not to do and no one got injured.
Hope to hear more tidbits, and Happy and Safe New Years to everyone! Stay Safe.

It does not help any when that side street is also the street of your Station Captain! Always watching you!
