Nice post. I'd like to use this as an opportunity to ask if anyone has experience working on the highway and if they think this law is effective.
I ask because some opponents of it say that it will cause more accidents because people scramble to change lanes. I don't know if we have any numbers or statistics to look at, but even if it did increase accidents for other people, it certainly keeps us and our patients safer which is the whole idea.
We've had the move over law in WV for a while. Despite the signs every mile or so down the highway, people often don't move over. We get little support from the police when it comes to MVA's (which is odd, I know). They don't help us any with traffic.
I'd like to see how this works in NJ and my hope is that it will be very successful. For instance the turnpike is a very fast road but it has the benefit of being flat and straight. People should be able to see emergency scenes from a long way off. Has anyone thought about painting chevrons on the rear of their apparatus?
