Station 272 & 278 were special called to the New Jersey Turnpike by Burlington County Central Communications to assist with a vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree. 2781 (Eckart) & 2723 (Lt. Bowman) responded with 8 Members. Our units arrived to find a late model Mitsubishi Lancer into a tree with the driver and front seat passenger heavily entrapped. Crews also found 4 other occupants lying on the grass shoulder who had previously been freed from the wreckage by passers-by. The BLS crew performed triage and initial patient care. The Squad crew immediately went to work extricating the remaining victims. Crews performed a roof removal, both front doors were removed, the dashboard was rolled and pedals were cut. Crews also assisted with patient packaging to expedite their transport to the local trauma centers. Additional Members arrived during the incident, bringing our total response to 12 Members participating. Also responding to the scene were the Endeavor Emergency Squad, Burlington Township Fire Department, the America Emergency Squad, Mount Laurel Emergency Medical Services, Virtua Paramedics, and Chief Bozoski (1900). 2723 remained on location and assisted the New Jersey State Police with their investigation.
