OK, kiddies...let's clean out the cobwebs that have been accumulating and get our strategic game on. You older, wiser people: let the younger guys get their responses in first (they're the future). Refresher: Strategy is [glow=red,2,300]WHAT[/glow] we will do Tactics is [glow=red,2,300]HOW[/glow] we will do it. Three choices: [glow=red,2,300]Offensive,[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Transitional,[/glow] [glow=red,2,300]Defensive.[/glow] Study the pictures, read the smoke, read the building, Make The Call, then explain why. Ill take a stab and try and get the MTC rolling again
Strategy: Offensive
Size Up: This appears to be a fire on a Div 2 room(maybe bed or office judging by the window unit air conditioner on the roof). The black smoke on the Bravo side appears to be due to petroleum products (insulation/siding/ bedroom synthetics?couch?) since there is not a lot of volume associated with it which leads me to believe this is a decent room and contents job that started near a window on that B side and has autoexposed the siding. Also, if you notice the smoke on the Delta side is very white with very little volume leading me to believe that ordinary combustibles have just lit off, thus i doubt that all of Div 2 is fully involved.
Tactics: First due engine stretch the 1 3/4 to Div 2 with the second due engine company stretching the back up line. Get the ladder company to open up the cielings and walls to make sure this didnt get into the attic and it isnt running over the hoseline's head while performing a primary search with part of the crew due to cars in the driveway (unless the IC has determined all occupants are safely out).

Good read, Jon....just a clarification for you Reading Smoke fans: black smoke indicates direct flame contact and not necessarily the material involved. In the last seminar I attended, Chief Dodson told us that 99% of all materials give off black smoke when directly impinged by flame...that means that the fire isn't smoldering, but free burning somewhere in the facility, a key piece of information. Jon correctly points out that the smoke on the opposite side is lighter, less thick, and seems a lot lazier...all indications of volume-pushed smoke, which would lead us to believe that the fire is still very much compartmentized (ie: room and contents).

Thanks for nailing it on the head Jon, nothing left for the rest of us to do but say, Yup, good read. LOL...well, I tried..... I just started getting back into posting on the site here now that the summer time fun is slowing down drastically. I was all happy to see this and I thought I would post the A+ reply... then I read Jon's. Shit. So I was gonna make the correction about the smoke color... then read the old man's remarks... DAMN! So much for hitting a home run my first time out.
