Following up on a suggestion from Web Boss, I'd like to solicit everyone's thoughts on suggested parameters for deciding a strategic mode...when and under what conditions would/should you choose Offensive, Transitional, or Defensive mode? Some answers will be obvious, while other may not OR may be subject to a wide range of interpretations. I will also give credit where credit is due; the July issue of Fire Rescue magazine has an excellent article by Greg Jakubowksi called "Get Out Several Conditions Require Crews to Switch from Offensive to Defensive Attacks" (page 40). Greg tells us the following broad-based aspects should be evaluated and weighed when choosing an initial strategy or changing one:
1) Building conditions 2) Equipment conditions 3) Staffing conditions 4) Fireground conditions
I'm going to start working up my list and will add it later...
