From the secret list:
Washington State Cancer LODD: Kent Firefighter Marty Hauer passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 after a brave battle-this is being considered an LODD. Firefighter Hauer was a member of the Kent FD for 15 years. He was serving on the IAFF technical advisory committee for the Wellness/Fitness Initiative and an active IAFF Peer Fitness train-the-trainer. He spent his entire career serving on our own physical fitness committee, and spent a huge amount of time trying to pioneer a regional wellness center to benefit all the FD's in the greater Puget Sound area. Marty's career was focused on helping other firefighters and promoting firefighter fitness, wellness, and health. He touched many lives all around the country. Just two weeks ago he was at the IAFF Wellness Fitness booth at the Phoenix Health, Wellness and Fitness Symposium. He leaves behind his wife Kris and their two children.

From the secret list:
A Verona (NC) Firefighter as well as an Onslow County Deputy Sheriff were killed in the Line of Duty this morning south of Verona in Onslow County, N.C.. Dense smoke that covered the area from wildland burning led to 0 visibility along US 17 resulting in numerous crashes. While attempting to locate a multiple crash reported along the roadway, the Firefighter (from the Verona Volunteer FD) and Deputy were directing traffic around the area due to the visibility problem when a semi drive right into them, killing them both. Another Deputy was injured and transported. Initial 911 reports were of a crash on the overpass with a child involved. While attempting to locate, the VVFD located several other crashes resulting in the decision to slow down traffic to one lane and eventually completely close the road. While searching for victims, another crash was heard ...and then 911 dispatchers notified the units that another crash had occurred north of their location...and that a firefighter was down. More details to follow. ROADWAY SAFETY: TRUST NO ONE. ASSUME THEY CAN'T SEE US...and operate that way.

This was our best month so far. Definitely the lowest amount of LODDs for any month this year. Here is the last one. From Firehouse.com:
