In the past serveral months, my Department has been focusing on dividing our training into two distinct types: larger or "Department" type drills which focus on information or evolutions which affect multiple companies, or smaller "Station" type drills with an emphasis on individual skills. If you frequent the firefighterclosecalls.com, fireengineering.com, or firehouse.com websites, then you've probably noticed an increase in downloadable training exercises being available...a great resource for officers who have to constantly look for "meaningful" or "fun" training opportunities.
