NIOSH has gone to the unusual step of issuing a "draft" report to the mayor of Charleston, South Carolina for the Super Sofa Store fire that claimed the lives of nine brother firefighters. Here's the link: static.wciv.com/niosh.pdfAlthough the report does not contain any preliminary or final recommendations, there is a a lot of background information that bears reviewing in light of the final report (with recommendations) that will be issued at a later date. Another interesting fact: NIST was among the many agencies included in the investigative process, due no doubt to the conditions prevailing at the time of the fire. NIST, which appears to be taking a closer look at what we do, recently investigated a condo fire in Virginia at which a FF lost his life due to high wind conditions driving the fire.
