Cinn City will be starting the year with two additional career firefighters. All shifts will be at 4 firefighters again with a FO, 2 FF/FIs, and a FF/EMT during the daytime hours.

Hp Just off topic for a second under your name you have Division Leader. It really is Division Supervisor. That isn't something that I put on there. That was designated to me since I run a thread on here I believe.

Station 311 will be getting a new BC and Lieutenant....312's leadership will remain the same. Our Board recently had a strategic plan done and will no doubt be tackling some of it's recommendations. From a personal standpoint, I'm looking to address some training issues as well as begin the long-term chore of working with our Health and Safety Committee to create a comprehensive Health and Safety Program...a thankless, pain-in-the-tush yet very important piece of the compliance puzzle. As the person designated to create and adminster the SOP/SOG process, that will keep me busy for some time once the review and approval process is nailed down...I've already identified approximately 200+ SOPs that need to be written.

171 will be getting a new DC, Captain and Lt. The present Captain and Lt. are moving up and a firefighter will be getting promoted to Lt.
The biggest thing I have planned for 2008 at the moment is in house staffed duty crews from 18:00 - 22:00 M-Thu.
We presently meet every Tuesday with about 15-20 participating. We have a drill scheduled every week except for the last Tuesday which is our monthly meeting.
The weekly duty crew will be laid out like this. I have a Power Point just about complete that gives more detail on the program.
Chauffer Officer Firefighter Firefighter
The night will start with inspections. Each night will cover something different (equipment, mechanical, SCBA, etc.) Dinner will be next After dinner, the same drill topic will be presented each night that week by the officer. Lesson plans and sign in sheets will be prepared in advance. After the drill there will be time to work out in the gym, work on special projects etc. I plan to also throw some preplanning weeks in there also in place of the drill.
I feel this program has many benefits.
1. The members will be able to pick their nights in advance that they will be committing themselves to the fire service. They will not have to be on the same night each week. 2. Staffed apparatus - need I say more on that? 3. All members will get a better opportunity to get the drills that they are missing. 4. Mandatory drills - same thing when you offer it 4 nights a week it is a lot easier to make it to one of them. 5. Opportunity for preplanning. 6. Line officers presently make time to come down and do inspections. With this being done each night he/she will simply have to monitor when things need attention. 7. Comradeship
We plan to role this out in February as a trial. If you have any questions about it please shoot me a PM or email or call me.

Anytime. I wish we had the membership that wanted to do something like that. I along with a few want to but we need a lot more than a few to get something of that magnitude in the works. Hopefully 2008 brings that motivation I'm hoping we can achieve.

Start little, try to get a crew together one night a week. A small group of us started to meet every Tuesday night years ago and it turned into 16-20 guys. Now that we have reached this point I feel we will be utilizing our resources better with the new program. We'll see, the whole thing could blow up in my face also.

Well we do have 5-6 people at the station almost every night and always on the weekends so. I guess it's a start for now. Just got to keep their interest in things to bring more members into it.

The biggest thing I have planned for 2008 at the moment is in house staffed duty crews from 18:00 - 22:00 M-Thu. <Hyjack> We've had a similar program for almost 10 years. The benefits are as you say. The other advantage is that it avoids burnout as call volume increases. You don't have the same five guys coming back for all the calls. I wasn't around for the inception of our program but I heard that it took some time for it to be totally accepted. It is quite a culture change to go from all home-response to duty crews. Give it time to gain momentum. I really think its a win-win for everyone. Another note: If you currently award incentives based on call volume you may want to modify it to include the Duty Crews. We've had guys run 5 or 6 duty crews a month and not make the minimum calls simply because they had several slow nights in a row. </Hyjack>

Thanks Guys
Voyager I actually stole this one from the 2-7. For every 2 hours you are on duty you get 1 credit, 1 credit = 1 call. This will be reported monthly in a separate report from actual calls. However, both reports will add up to what you need to meet min. requirements of the company.
I have to give them something back and since we do not have $, this will have to work for now.

The problem we had was accounting for slow nights without rewarding busy ones. We wanted to avoid "double dipping" by giving credit for both hours and calls. I think a good middle ground would be that call volume is the primary factor and that crew hours is only used to offset if a member is under the minimums.
