What are your goals in the fire service, where do you want to go?
When I first joined, my goal was to someday be Chief of my department. Now a few years under my belt that has changed, so i just want to be as good of a firefighter as I can be. What are your goals?

Now a few years under my belt that has changed, so i just want to be as good of a firefighter as I can be. What are your goals? When I originally joined, I just wanted to be a firefighter, thats all. Now, I'm working towards becoming a Lieutenant, granted I'm only 18, 3 years to go, but hey, that's 3 more years of experience. I want to eventually be the interior officer with the attack team inside. I'm told I have great leadership skills (whether some agree or disagree it's what I'm told to my face.) But, my biggest goal is to become a career firefighter. It's been my dream since I was a wee little one to be a paid firefighter. Whether my life takes me to career, or I stay volunteer and get a different career, I'll NEVER stop volunteering. I'll do my damn best to get a career position as a firefighter I will add

My goals are to get as much basic training as possible within these next 3-5 years and taking upper level classes after that. I've always held leadership positions throughout HS, but haven't given serious though to the possibilty of holding one as a Line Officer. Luckily, our line officers are appointed and battallion chiefs are elected so I wont have to, and dont want to, worry about that for a long time. For now Im just sticking to learning new things and honing my current skills

my goals are to gain as much knowledge as humanly possible, use it effectively, and be an asset on any scene, not just the first three letters of it...i want to go paid sooner than later, and i do want to put a white hat on in the future...

So then we can then just call you 4100Kramer right? ;D I'm in the same boat as Chris. I'm taking all the classes/seminars I can so I can absorb the knowledge and put it forth productively on the scene. I'd like to see a white helmet on my head a couple decades from now, lol

I have plenty of goals being a firefighter but a goal I will never and never want to achieve is knowing it all. I can recall Chief Bickmore telling me at a drill after a couple months I joined that the day you think you know it all about the fire service is the day you get hurt. Knowing it all is not possible. With the fire service changing as times go bye I attempt to keep up with it and seek advice whenever possible from fellow firefighters.

My goal when I first joined the FD was to get on the job somewhere, which I did. Now that I am on the job my goal is to learn everything I possibly can so that the brothers I work with have the best possible chance of coming home in one piece after every job. As of now, I have no intentions of becoming and officer anytime soon, I have entirely too much to learn. For those of you who do want to become officers, you don't need a white helmet or horns on your helmet to be a leader. If you are a true leader everyone will know it and you will not need horns to advertise it. Be the guy who always does the right thing, steps up when something needs to be done, and never stops learning and you will be on your way to becoming a leader. Just my 2 cents.

there is no such thing as a SOC ladder. their are SOC support ladders. if you are assigned to a SOC support truck you stay at the ROCK for 2 weeks after proby school. 1 week of hazmat training and 1 week tech rescue. they teach you how to help squad and rescue at a big incident. they teach you the names of stuff so you know what to get them when they ask for stuff.
you seem awful concerned about me and where i work. who are you?
