I know that at one point people had been talking about a farm machinery Agricultural rescue classes. With the amount of equipment like this in the county I think this would be a great class for someone to hold or even the county to teach at the Training center. I found some links for some classes held in PA and an Instructor that teaches the class. www.rescuetechs.com/www.agrescue.com/index.htm

It'd be a class a lot of companies would probably support. I know mine would. And I'd definitely be one who supported it 120%.

I'm sure setting up a class of this nature might be a little while off in the future for the ESTC, even if it has a future, but this isn't anything beyond the abilities of 43/27, or any other of our progressive rescue agencies to set up and run. The hardest part would be getting the agricultural equipment to practice with and learn off of. I know I would be interested in attending something along these lines.

I'm sure if there was enough intrest in the class I maybe able to talk to the higher ups about holding the class maybe not this year but in future. Equiptment will be the hardest thing to come accross but I'm sure with the amount of farms in burlington county if the word was put out there we would be able to come up with some equiptment. Even if the class was to take a day to a farm just to look at the equiptment so people have a better understanding on how it works.

Within the next year thier putting up way to many houses on the Sunnyside Farms property. Maybe we can talk them into letting us check our some of their equipment since their not going to be needing it nearly as much in the near future. While I doubt we'll be allowed to dismantle anything, I agree with you (again) that just being able to see the different equipment close up would give us a much needed advantage if we ever had to face a real situation.

I know there was a burned up combine sitting in the 19th dist. for a while. Its still there, only thing the owner was less then cooperative that day, so I doubt he'd be anymore cooperative today. A couple of us have already talked about this if you remember the post on TWD. Chuckie has feelers out trying to obtain the necessary equipment. Im not sure if he has made any head way?

Chad,
As you know I have taken the Farm Extrication Class already. Teaching the class would be pretty easy with the right help. The problem is the logistical needs such as the equipment. Making the power point would be tough, atleast until it ran once. Maybe I can see if the county will send a few of us to a TTT class and bring it back here. I have permission to store equipment at the county as long as it can be used over. Most of the props will be able to be used over and over. We need corn heads, bailers, tractor's with PTO shafts, and we need a few farmers to conduct some tours. Working grain silo would be nice.
The best thing to do is have a few farm mechanics at the class. They usually will come out. There were two different mechanics at our class. They are full of knowledge on the workings of the equipment.
FDIC also offers a Specialized Rescue class. I have taken just about all of them and that is how I came up with telling you about the portable band saw. Came in handy for impalements didn't it? All the guys in Extrication II that used it can vouch for it. That is one awesome tool.
I have a guy that can run the farm rescue class I already spoke to him. He is just waiting for a reply back from me. I also have a guy that can do a machinery/specialized extrication as discussed earlier in TWD but he too is waiting on a call from me. We need to get equipment and no one has called me with anything?

Chad
Most of the farmers that I talked to were open to giving their old equipment to me as long as they could scrap it when we were finished. I can understand them wanting the equipment back with the price of metal as high as it is and the farmers really don't make big dollars doing their jobs.
So there was the first problem that county wants to keep it and the farmers want it back
Scott I have e-mailed the guy from P.A. where i took the class back in 2005 I will send it again to see if we can get some type of answer to what we need to get this moving forward.
Also we need to work out the power situation for the plasma cutter my generator will not run a 220volt 30amp piece of equipment.
After the forklift incident I bought a enclosed equipment trailer at work and it contains most of the tools or equipment we would need. I am pretty sure we could use it as long as anything that was damaged was repaired or replaced.
I will reach out to the local companies I deal with for obtaining a tractor with a working PTO.

A silly thought...
Has anyone contacted the John Deer dealer or Tractor Supply on RT38 to see if quite possibly we could get corperate support and/or sponsorship for such a thing? I've been reading up on this topic all over the internet and there has been many different articles about both of these companies offering equipment and support for Fire/Rescue training. One article even described that a John Deer Engineer was sent to a fire academy in Tenn. at no charge to explain the various details of this kind of equipment.
Again, just a thought.

For tractors and more on the farm equipment line the dealers in the area are Marvin Wainwright in Dist. 40 and Cherry Valley Tractor in Dist.22
I reached out to Marvin this morning to see if he or his dad could help with the operation of different types of machines. He said just let him know when and where and they would be glad to help in anyway they could
I also contacted Cherry Valley Tractor for some assistance. I am sure they would be willing to help also.
The John Deere on Rt. 38 is large construction equipment. The question is how large are we going to go with equipment. Getting a piece of equipment that large to destroy is going to be tough.
Scott I think we should get together and discuss this so we are all on the same page. You more or less handle the extrication side at the academy.
Could you set a meeting up with who you think could make the class happen?
Transportation of the equipment will be a task in it's own. Hopefully someone has a good friend that owns a tow truck

Guys,
I am meeting with the leads from Camden and Gloucester Counties in reference to getting our Ext I and Ext II classes on the same page. I am going to work on this first and I will start working on the Farm class latter.
I finished the Bus Extrication and am in the process of submitting it to the state OEMS for approval. I am also working on a Big Rig Class which I feel are just as, if not more, important due to the amount of these types of trucks and buses up and highways everyday and the impaqct they have on us now.
If someone wants to help out with the Farm Extrication that is fine with me. Keep researching and make some copies put them in a folder and we can all sit down and discuss it.
