Taking off the Idea of a RIC task force what is everyones feelings on a Rescue Strike Team. The Idea behind this team would not be for the technical side of rescue as I know this is already in the works. This would be for incidents such as the I-4 70 car pile up in Florida. With 295, the Turnpike and Garden State Parkway running through our county there is the potential for this type of incident to occur. Have these teams setup would save the IC the time of having to ask for the next 5 additional rescues. The strike team would be setup and consist of Rescues, Rescue Engine, and Squad company in no particular order or combination of resources. I of course think there should be a minimum level of equipment that all the truck should carry above and beyond what the county's standard is. Some of the requirements would be: 1. X# of long cribbing 2. x# of 4x4's 3. x# of 2x4's 4. x# of Wedges 5. x# of Step Cribs 6. the ability to stabilize x# of vehicles on it side 7. Alternate Cutting Device 8. Minimum of 1 Spreader & Cutter 9. Minimum Number of rescue qualified people Here is another example of an accident that happened in PA in 2003 that required several rescues to respond. www.csfc33.com/responses-06nov03.html

In your general outline, you have outlined the "very-basic" guidelines our county has recently adopted for "Rescue" type apparatus. We really should define, even if it's only for our own purposes, what everyone carries so we can refer to it when we need something specific. It would also be tough to outline what fits as a rescue for the taskforce versus a typical rescue company, especially when the new standards were developed that basically allow just anyone to be considered a rescue. We don't want to create double standards and god forbid we don't write policies around certain departments. ;D All of my sarcasim aside, this would not be a bad idea to solidify, especially for those of us who have responsibilities to the major thru-ways of the state.

Thanks I agree with you that the policy dose allow almost anyone to be a rescue but you can however have separate requirements for the strike team. This team will be used for a special purpose where there maybe the need for one of the rescues to arrive and work on 2 cars at once or various other things where a IC may need several rescues with the ability to stabalize a large vehicle. If you look at the WUI strike teams they include A Team that will consist of the following equipment: seven (7) Type I Engines, two (2) Type I Water Tenders, and two (2) Type VI Engines (brush units). With this said everyone has engines but only certain types of engines are part of task force because of the purpose it is being used for.
Apparatus Guideline
1. The primary piece of apparatus needed for an "Interface" assignment is an engine. The primary function of the engine is structural protection. The unit I.D. number (readable from the air) should be on cab/body of roof or hosebed cover. The number(s) should be of reflective material at least 1ft. high. There is a need for other types of apparatus. Examples are: Tenders, brush units, and support units.
2. An engine with a water tank of at least 1000 gallons. An engine must be able to draft.
