Another reason to wear eye protection: last Sunday evening during a very extensive extrication, our cutters snapped, sending pieces of blade flying around the immediate rescue area and striking (as I've been told) the face shield of another emergency responder.
High-tensile steel is starting to find it's way into a lot of cars; at 120,000 lbs tensile strength and depending upon shape and/or configuration, it can very well be beyond the capability of "standard" cutters that are usually rated at 100,000 psi.
Speaking only for myself, "One-Eye" isn't a nickname I'd like to have....

Wish I had eye protection when I was in 3rd grade standing in the bus line. Not the short bus either!! ;D
Anyway, the girl in front of me tossed her umbrella onto her shoulder at the same moment I turned my head and got the tip of the umbrella in my right eye. Fast forward almost 35 years to a routine eye exam. Dr. keeps looking at my right eye. I ask him whats wrong. he says "You ever have a black eye before?" Sure, and I told him the above story. He said my optic nerve is damaged and I now have Glaucoma. Luckily, drops 3x a day for the rest of my life and I'm OK.
So yeah, wear that eye protection!!!!
