I post a LODD thread every month for the US. This thread will be for the foreign ones.
This one is from the secret list:
At least 2 Firefighters have been killed in the Line of Duty at a major fire in a shopping and office tower block in northwestern China. One other Firefighter is missing in the fire that burned for more than 15 hours in the city of Urumqi. The 2 Firefighters died while searching for people trapped. The 12-story Dehui International Plaza normally houses thousands of people in its shopping center and the upper office floors. We have posted more along with photos on our home page. As always, our condolences in the loss of these Firefighters.

Here is one from Scotland that I got from the secret list:
SCOTLAND APPARATUS LODD: FF John Noble, 46, of the Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service was killed in the Line of Duty when the fire apparatus he was riding in left the roadway about 1330 GMT today and struck a tree. The Firefighters had been responding to an automatic fire alarm at a school after a smoke alarm activated. Firefighter Alan Robertson was also seriously injured in the crash and two others suffered minor injuries. FF Noble had more than 20 years' experience as a firefighter. He leaves a wife and two kids.

Africa LODD form the secret list:
We regret to advise you that Four firefighters drowned when a City of Harare (Africa) fire apparatus was swept away by a flooded river on Friday night, while returning from a rescue call. The apparatus driver was the only survivor when a passerby was able to assist in his rescue. The accident happened at about 2230 Friday when the Firefighters tried to cross the swollen Ruwa River on their way back from rescuing 3 people who had been marooned. The fire apparatus was swept away when the driver tried to negotiate his way past a bridge. The area has been slammed with heavy rains have caused flooding in many rivers across the country with cases of drowning increasing. Our sincere condolences to all affected.

From firefighterclosecalls.com:
SOUTH KOREAN FF KILLED LODD-STAFFING TARGETED Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Cho Dong-hwan, a South Korena Firefighter at an Ilsan fire station, received an emergency call at 2:49 a.m. on Feb. 26.
He drove to the T golf practice building in Munbong-dong, Ilsan Seo-gu, Goyang, where the fire started. Since his fire station operated with just two shifts of only two firefighters, he had to drive the fire truck alone. He arrived at the scene at 3:03 a.m. to put out a fire burning on the first floor. However, across from the building, he saw another building and a passageway on the third floor connecting the two buildings. This got his attention. He climbed on top of a 1 meter wide by 1.8 meter long board and began to put out the fire.
At 3:08 a.m., when other firefighters arrived, Cho slipped on the wet board and fell to the ground, 10 meters below. His co-workers completely extinguished the fire at 3:30 a.m. However, as they were about to finish the job, they discovered Cho’s body at 3:52 a.m. He was transported to Dongguk University’s Ilsan Hospital, but he had already died.
The building which had caught on fire was being used without proper certification and had been slated for demolition.
Firefighters grieved, saying that “Cho risked his life to put out a fire. If the station had operated with more staff, he could have been saved. The number of fire stations operating with only two fire fighters is three in Ilsan and 79 in Gyeonggi Province.
The number of fire fighters in the province is 5,346, which stands at a mere 61.3% of the level required by law. This figure is far below the national average (83%).
Cho was promoted by one rank posthumously at his funeral. President Lee Myung-bak sent flowers to the funeral home of the hospital. His parents cried out in sorrow, “Who needs a rank badge? You sacrificed your life to do your job.”

From the secret list:
A French Firefighter was killed in the Line of Duty yesterday at the real busy Cours Lafayette shopping area by a huge blast that occurred around midday. The explosion happened following the arrival of Firefighters. Over 1,000 people were evacuated from the area where fires went on to destroy several buildings. Over 160 Firefighters operated at the scene, one of whom, a 35 year old father of two, was killed in the Line of Duty, and 40 more people were injured. President Nicholas Sarkozy sent a letter to the family of the dead firefighter to express his condolences and also praised the fire service for their rapid reaction to the disaster. The explosion is said to have taken place just half an hour after the gas leak was reported. Our condolences to all affected.

CANADA LODD UPDATE: FF Mathieu Emond, 26, had been part-time with the Varennes FD for two years. He is the father of an infant girl who is not yet one year old. Firefighters responded to the two-story home around 2300 Monday for reported smoke in the basement. Emond and two other Firefighters went to investigate and moments later, something went horribly wrong. The trio was ordered out but only two firefighters emerged as the fire got worse. The roof and part of the second storey collapsed. Firefighters could not go back inside to search until the fire was out and the site was secure, which was after dawn. Even then, a backhoe was brought in first to clear debris from the second floor. Quebec's workers' safety commission and the regional police are investigating Emond's death and the fire.

Update from the secret list: CANADA 18 YEAR OLD FF LODD UPDATE: The Val-des-Monts Volunteer Firefighter who was killed in the Line of Duty yesterday had 6 months on the job. At 1345 hours yesterday, the Val-des-Monts FD responded to a fire call from an alarm company for a dwelling fire. The man in the home didn't even know there was a fire and had to be alerted by a neighbor when the dispatcher's verification calls to the house were unanswered. Firefighters from Val-des-Monts responded and the fire was under control around 1545 hours. At that time, 4 Firefighters went in to handle hot spots, entering through the garage - which had not been damaged in the fire. They were on their way out and heard some cracking...they ran out...but the last one trying to get out was the 18 years old FF and the garage collapsed on him. Mutual aid was called for and the 18 year old Firefighter's body was found in the rubble within 45 minutes....he was not breathing...they worked him on the way to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. We will continue to update this information here and on our home page.
