Here's the next "working job".....this time with two views to better assist with your decision-making... Photos courtesy of John Axford OK....let's ask a few questions as well: 1) Any construction concerns? 2) Any fire loading concerns? 3) Where's the fire? 4) Left alone, where will it be five minutes from now? 5) Any obvious or not-so-obvious safety concerns? finally.....make your call...

OK....let's ask a few questions as well:
1) Any construction concerns? The Obvious concern is a common cockloft, also since the rear is shaped like it is, there is a possibility of extension unit to unit across those little gaps. Benefits is that these buildings are of Ordinary Construction which means they will stand up for a good while. They probably have a brick wall in-between the 2 sides of the Duplex. Also it looks like a good gap due to the Alley on the D-Side, only semi-attached, a great defensible point if necessary.
2) Any fire loading concerns? Not really any more than any other residence. Always the possibility of crappy house keeping, and everything else people stuff into their houses.
3) Where's the fire? Fire is in the rear, Looks like kitchen or washer/dryer room.
4) Left alone, where will it be five minutes from now? Left alone this thing is going to the 2nd floor, possibly to the attachment on the B-side via the add on room/roof in the rear.
5) Any obvious or not-so-obvious safety concerns? The enclosed deck on the rear of the structure would be my primary concern. It's questionable about how or even if that is secured to the rear of the house.
finally.....make your call...
Arriving establish command and announce location of the command post. I would the perform my 13 point size up and state that I am on scene with a 2 story Ordinary constructed, Semi-attached Duplex. Smoke showing Side A/ Division 2. Exposures will be the Street on A-side, an attached residence on B-Side, a fenced in yard on side C, and a semi-attached residence on Side D. I would then dip into that Alley on the D-Side to get a gander at the rear. Next step would be to put all companies in-service, call for RIT, a Safety Chief, and an Accountability Chief and additional 2 Engines and 1 Ladder. Next we would establish an accountability system per State guidelines using a Chart and 2 tag system. I would then announce this as in Offensive Attack and order the 1st arriving engine to lay in and leave room for the ladder. Lead off 1-3/4" through the front door. Ladder Company, OV from the rear then Search the fire building and begin opening up for extension. 2nd Engine pick up the hydrant, pull 2 lines 1 to the exposure and one to back up the original line. Ladder 2 search Exposure B.

2 story ordinary construction, fire does seem to be in either kitchen fire or laundry room. First engine attack from the front of the home, with 1" 3/4, while back up line in behind you, checking for victims and or extension on the Div 2. Second engine to the rear of the dwelling with another 1" 3/4 pulled to div C. Crews checking for extenison into to commonback porch roof along with the kitchen next door. If possible truck co. to the rear, getting set up to check roof and for extension in the firebldg. of course being aware the fact that crews are in side and would be pushing it out the rear. Does not seem to be any major concerns as far as smoke is showing except that the crews may have already knock it down

1. Row homes run a common cockloft & connecting porches. 2. Kitchen shed is all wood (good fuel) 3. Kitchen area Charlie side 4. Division #2 Charlie & eventually into the cockloft area running both directions. 5. kitchen shed is a add on supported by 4x4's.
Transitional / offensive
Arriving on location, quick size up (thanks to the alley way) my report: 2 story midle of the row dwelling, ordinary construction, 15x40 with heavy smoke showing from division 1 charlie side. 1st in engine lay from the hydrant, go in service with 1.75" attack line division 1 "A", 1st in ladder position in front of the fire building (need to watch the overhead wires & trees if we need the main in service) ladder crew handle vent, 2nd in engine take the hydrant & supply the 1st in engine, send crews forward go in service with the back up line, rescue crews conduct a primary search on division #2, 3rd & 4th in companies stage their apparatus and send crews forward and use them to check both B&D exposures. remaining "MANPOWER"
