Someone is obviously looking for a brief vacation in the burn ward... Let's post our classic "What the Fudge?" pictures here along with appropriate comments

A classic illustration of how we sometimes allow the little head to make all the important decisions...I can't help but laugh whenever I see this one....it ain't HOW you're doing, it's just WHETHER you're doing...

Unfortunately a oft-repeated scene on many firegrounds: the official "Chief Officer PPE Exemption Rule: "I'll put my gear on when I'm done" At least he's wearing gloves..LOL

Now I can't honestly say if this firefighter has been properly trained to perform this kind of work but the one question I keep asking myself is "Why WOULD you want to do this?"

I got one for you...from 1900s vehicle "White Helmets Kill Brain Cells". Now this isn't attacking ANY or ALL white helmets. Just those who do this crap.. I didn't know water was supposed to go into ventilation holes..

I'm going to stir-up the ant hill and make a blanket statement that white helmets are hopelessly habitual offenders of the PPE rule...and I'll even include myself in that (at times).
For some it's nothing but sheer laziness...as well as an expression of power: "Hey, do as I say, not as I do" type of thing. Others simply believe the rank makes them exempt from the laws of physics and probability.
Now, having said that, I've been guilty of doing a quick size-up sans gear but always try to make a point to get into ASAP, believing that I'm supposed to be setting an example. Personnally, I even want the chiefs standing around the CP in gear...
To me, it's a question of leadership, not coolness or power expression. How the hell are you supposed to listen to someone without gear tell you to put your safety glasses on? Safety is part of a white helmet's job and quite frankly, you ain't doing your job if you're walking around without gear!

I didn't know water was supposed to go into ventilation holes.. Thats not a vent hole, it is about 1X2 if that...last I checked vent holes are 4x4 for residential or 8x8 for commercial. If that is a vent hole it will be woefully ineffective. I won't defend the gear thing, but if that's a vent hole, he better pull everyone out of the inside because they are not properly relieving the products of combustion.

I really hope this guy isn't the Safety Officer, this would just be terribly ironic.

These aren't pictures, but still make you think WTF?!?! after reading them. Both are from the secret list.
TEXAS FD Involved Fatality: In a very tragic accident, Firefighters in San Antonio (Texas) responding to a fire call Monday evening accidentally struck and killed a woman in a wheelchair. The woman was struck as the apparatus was leaving a bank parking lot. The crew from SAFD Station No. 44 was responding to a brush fire when they thought they hit something, but reportedly didn't see anything until they noticed sparks coming from underneath their fire apparatus. When they stopped to check their rig, Firefighters found an empty wheelchair under the vehicle...and when the crew returned to the scene, they found the victim lying decapitated in the street.
ANOTHER FIREFIGHTER: ON DUTY DUI & DRUG POSSESSION: A West Wilmerding (PA) Volunteer Firefighter drove fire apparatus to an early morning fire call on Sunday and was then arrested on charges of drug possession and driving under the influence. According to the North Versailles PD, FF Shawn Dixon, 27, was arrested at the scene of the fire in North Versailles after cops said they smelled alcohol on his breath and he failed a field sobriety test. According to police, cocaine was also found on Dixon. Wonderful.
