I don't know how he finds these, but I'm glad he's sharing! From hp4l's vast collection...here's Number 8. Lots to ponder......

First off the guy on the tip needs a pak. Second it looks like it is a car that was parked in the spot. Third the building appears to be cinder block, so there is a good chance it won't extend to the building. Attack the fire, if you can't get to the engine compartment because of the vehicle being to close to the wall if you have a truck with a winch, place the winch in service to pull it away (as long as it's not the one that the hose came off of and the fire is under sontrol). Have a crew go into the building to check for extension or any damage to the building JUST IN CASE. If you really want to do a JUST IN CASE check, ladder the building and check the roof.

I agree that the car looks like it was parked. If it crashed though, the building now becomes a bigger concern. Here's my take if it was just parked. If we were hit out for a vehicle fire, I would have the assignment upgraded to a structure. Get more companies coming in just in case. First engine puts a 1 3/4" line in service to attack the car, guys packed up unlike the moron in this pic. The car is the main priority since that's where the fire is right now. Second crew goes into the building to check for extension with a TIC. If you are lucky enough to get a truck company since you upgraded the assignment, put them on the roof. It can't hurt.

Wow... you sure '05 isn't your uncle or grandfather (ha ha) or something? Taking this from the 2-7 approach, based upon our current run cards, I would ask for the assignment to be filled out. In our area that would bring the Squad, 2 Engines (one of which could be Q361), at least 1 Truck, and a Rescue. The first arriving unit would handle immediate attack on the vehicle to knock the fire down. The possibility for extension decreases drastically once the fire is knocked down. The second arriving engine would position in a way prepared to lay out to a hydrant if the situation turns worse, with it's crew going to the interior to make sure there's no problem inside. The first arriving truck would be sent to the roof to check for extension and heat related damage, especially around the cornices. Any responding resources would be staged and called up as needed. I'm taking the approach that there is no to minimal extension, whereas if the crews would be getting into heavy interior work, the Rescue would be assigned as the RIC and the Health Department would be requested to assist the Squad Co. with air sampling/monitoring/run off control due to the occupancy and predicted contents of the building.

Protecting the building would be my first priority. The car is a loss (rolling garbage fire) and given the occupancy, we don't want this fire to spread! Now, the best way to protect the building will be to put the car fire out. Crew should pack up (*ahem*) and go get it. I would attack the fire more from the side the the guy in the picture. I don't want to push the fire into the building. While it is cinder block and the fire shouldn't easily extend, there may be a doorway or window we can't see behind the fire.

That is a great point about a door or window. Hopefully with a quick knock of the car, we will be able to determine that. That would definitely help the fire get into the building. Crew(s) going interior to check extension need to be alert for this.

In what little time I've been in the department, I can safely say Chief Bickmore has had the most influence in my firefighting, both directly and indirectly. As a young firefighter I try to emulate a lot of the principles he stands for. So in case you never knew that 05, much kudos to you.

Since 2003, Rick is someone I've kind of latched onto for his wisdom and Yoda like ways. I know exactly where you're coming from. He always has his game face on, which is why it's fun to poke a little fun here and there at him. I expect it in return!
