Ok. Big Fire; Big house.
BEFORE anything 360. However from the picture I see...
A lot of fire self venting. I would go transitional. Hit it with the deck gun knock it down. Once knocked down send a crew in to hit hots spots and the extension. Though there is a lot of fire it looks like it is contained to the garage area and above. I think once knocked down you can send a crew or two in and finish it up. Establish a Safety Officer from the beginning and have a rit team for each hose line.
This is one fire I wish I could have the benefit of a 360!

It appears that from this picture, they have already attempted to hit the fire from the exterior, hopefully with more than that one line they are stretching. I keep looking at the garage doors and wonder how long this has been burning and trying to figure out what is involved inside. I agree with the transitional operation. Let's knock the snot out of it from the exterior and if we can safely move in to finish it up then go for it.

JDub and Jim: I like your comments a lot.....just so happens that Tootall, Got Work, and I were chewing this over in the office earlier today and another aspect was noted: construction. Is this a truss or stick constructed roof? Can't honestly say from the picture, so my default would be: Assume That It Is Until Proven Otherwise.
Jdub's lament about a 360 is something I share...this is one job where you've GOT to take a peek at the other side before committing anyone to an interior attack.
Here's my take: Transitional until something happens, good or bad. Smack it with the deck gun while your stretch a 2 1/2, even if it means emptying your tank.....if the deck gun operator has any sense of aim, you're going to AT LEAST stun the damn thing long enough to get some lines stretched and maybe determine if that roof is two minutes away from becoming a smoking heap.
Ok, another thing: looking past that annoying orange stuff, the thicker, darker stuff pushing upwards means you have direct flame in a semi-closed compartment, perhaps a separate room in the attic (notice the absence of brownish-reddish smoke...this would indicate it's probably a furnished attic, not an unfinished one)
