On 4/5/08 @ 0250 hours, Sta 408, 401 and medic 34 were dispatched to the intersection of Old york and Busleton roads for MVa with entrapment.
Chief 4002 arrived on location and confirmed entrapment. Vehicle was on the passenger side, with the driver suspended from the driver seat, only being held up by the seatbelt and unconcious.
4001 arrived on location and assumed command, with 4002 as rescue operations. Amb 4082 arrived and the crew attempted to make patient contact. 4001 asked for aeromedical and an additional rescue, bringing rescue 3318 to the scene.
Engine 4012 arrived and the crew started vehicle stablization, stretched an 1 3/4 hand line and removed the windsheild to allow 4082 crew to access patient. Rescue 4018 arrived and went in service with 2 combi tools, O cutter, spreader and sawzall to do a full roof peel enabling the medics access the patient. Medics ordered a rapid extrication of the patient based on the patient condition and the crews cut her down from the seat, lowering her onto a stretcher.
Victim was transported to Fuld trauma center by ground with numerous injuries. Groundstar was down due to weather! Total time for extrication was 20 minutes. R4018 remained on location until 0630 hrs assiting PD with lighting for the invest.
A Witnesses to the accident stated the vehicle crossed the center line and ran over a mailbox on the opposite side of the roadway before hitting a tree head on. Impact from the tree turned the vehicle and momentum rolled it over. That same witness used a dry chem extinguisher from his own vehicle to extinguish an engine compartment fire as he was calling 911.
