American Academy of Pediatrics
PEPP (Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals)
Elective CEU’s (8)
PEPP represents a comprehensive source of prehospital medical information for the emergent care of infants and children. It will teach prehospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children.
ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) formerly BTLS
Elective CEU’s (16)
ITLS courses give the student the knowledge and hands-on skills to take better care of trauma patients. ITLS stresses rapid assessment, appropriate intervention and identification of immediate life threats. The ITLS framework for rapid, appropriate and effective trauma care is a global standard that works in any situation.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EMT’S (NAEMT)
AMLS (Advanced Medical Life Support) Elective CEU’s (16)
The Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) course is sponsored by the National Association of EMTs (NAEMT) and endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP). It is the first course that addresses the most common medical complaints and offers a "think outside the box" method of assessing and managing a patient in medical crisis. The course emphasizes using the scene size-up, history and physical exam to systematically rule-out and rule-in possibilities and probabilities of their medical problem. This course offers the opportunity to be in an assessment-based approach and progress to a diagnostic-based approach to develop a specific treatment plan for a specific medical condition; resulting in a differential diagnosis.
PHTLS (Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support) Elective CEU’s 16 Refresher Course CEU’s (8)
The course is scenario-based, with lectures and interactive skills station components meant to enhance the prehospital care providers’ knowledge, and further develop the critical thinking skills required to effectively treat the trauma patient in the field. The PHTLS Refresher course is designed to be an 8-hour workshop and incorporates interactive teaching sessions and evaluation stations. Candidates who wish to participant in a refresher course much have successfully completed a PHTLS or BTLS provider course within the last 4 years prior to the course. Recognition of successful completion for PHTLS provider and Refresher courses is for 4 years.
Incident Command Classes
ICS 100 Incident Command System Elective CEU’s (2)
ICS 100 is an introduction to the incident command system. This course is designated to introduce the personnel to the basic ICS structure
ICS 200 Elective CEU’s (12)
ICS 200 is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS-200 provides training on resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the ICS. This program will have group exercises.
Prerequisite: ICS - 100
ICS 300 Incident Command System I300 Elective CEU’s (24)
ICS 300 is a 24 hour class designed to present ICS modules 7-11. Topics include organization and staffing, organizing for incidents, and event planning. This program will have several group exercises.
Prerequisite: ICS – 200
ICS 400 Incident Command System I400 Elective CEU’s (24)
ICS 400 is a 24 hour class designed to provide training in advanced ICS for Command and General Staff, Complex Incidents and MACS for Operational First Responders. This advanced program is designed for senior personnel who are expected to perform in a management capacity in an Area Command or multi-agency coordination system. This course is designed to provide overall incident management skill rather than tactical expertise. This course builds on the ICS 100 through ICS 300 courses. This program will include several group exercises and scenarios. Prerequisite: ICS 300
I-700 Elective CEU’s (2.5)
On February 28, 2003, President Bush issued Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5. HSPD-5 directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and administer a National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.
I-800 Elective CEU’s TBD
This course introduces you to the National Response Plan, including the concept of operations upon which the plan is built, roles and responsibilities of the key players, and the organizational structures used to manage these resources. The NRP provides a framework to ensure that we can all work together when our Nation is threatened.
Rescue Classes
Confined Space Awareness CEU’s (4)
The target audience for this four hour introductory course includes personnel who work in the proximity to but do not enter confined space. Participants will be able to identify a confined space and recognize its potential hazards.
Confined Space Operations CEU’s (12)
The target audience for this 16 hour operations course includes personnel who work within the confined space. Participants will be able to identify a confined space and recognize its potential hazards. Conduct initial air monitoring and ventilation, isolate any hazards through lock-out tag out procedures, make a safe entry with full PPE and Self contained or Supplied Air with an escape bottle, package a patient, set the rigging for rescue tag lines, belay lines, and rescue haul system using a tripod or whatever appliance used by your jurisdiction.
Low Angle Rope Rescue CEU’s (10)
The target audiences for this 16 hour introductory rope rescue course are firefighters and EMT’s. This class will be the basis of all rope rescue certification courses. In this course you will learn knots, rigging systems including anchor points, hauling and lowering systems, patient packaging as well as the care and maintenance of equipment.
Vehicle Extrication I CEU’s (15)
This course will provide the emergency responder with the understanding of the challenges associated with vehicle extrications. The 20 hours program is broken down into 10 hours of classroom time and 14 hours of hands on application to meet the needs of vehicle extrication for firefighters and EMT’s. The course will cover the following areas: common terminology, kinematics of trauma, patient packaging, vehicle technology and new vehicle technology, stabilization, hydraulic rescue systems, sawzalls, air chisels, and extrication techniques. In completion it covers the fundamentals of extrication and is a pre-requisite for vehicle extrication II.
Vehicle Extrication II CEU’s (11)
This course will provide the emergency responder with the understanding of the challenges associated with the advanced vehicle extrications. The 16 hours program is broken down into 4 hours of classroom time and 12 hours of hands on application. In its completion the student will be familiar with the following areas: Trauma associated with crushing injuries and impalements, rapid patient packaging, winch usage, advanced stabilization, extrication scenarios involving impalements, and advanced extrication techniques. The course is designed to provide the rescuer with an advanced knowledge of vehicle extrication in today’s world.
Pre-requisite: vehicle extrication I
School Bus Extrication CEU’s (10)
This course will provide the emergency responder with the understanding of the challenges associated with school bus extrications. The 16 hours program is broken down into 4 hours of classroom time and 12 hours of hands on application. In its completion the student will be familiar with the following areas: Bus anatomy and terminology, door removals, rear wall blow outs, side wall blow outs, interior operations, dash displacement, steering column displacement, seat removals, roof operations for gaining access and more… The course is designed to provide the rescuer with an advanced knowledge of school bus extrication in today’s world.
Pre-requisite: vehicle extrication I
Big Rig Extrication CEU’s (10)
This course will provide the emergency responder with the understanding of the challenges associated during a big rig extrication. The 16 hours program is broken down into 4 hours of classroom time and 12 hours of hands on application. In its completion the student will be familiar with the following areas: Big Rig anatomy and terminology, door removals, rear wall blow outs, sleeper wall blow outs, interior operations, dash displacement, steering column displacement, seat removals, roof operations for gaining access and more… The course is designed to provide the rescuer with an advanced knowledge of big rig extrication in today’s world.

Hazardous Materials/ CBRNE Classes
Pipeline Emergencies
This four hour class will give the first responder the ins and outs of pipeline emergencies. Topics covered will include recognizing hazards and pre-planning, making proper notifications, command decisions, operations for fires and leaks, and much more. Pre-requisite: None
New Jersey State Police Level I Haz-Mat Awareness CEU’s (4)
Hazardous Materials Awareness is the basis of all Haz-Mat courses designed to meet OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 472 for all first responders (fire, police, EMS, and public works). The basic 6 hour course will explain what hazardous materials incidents are, as well as giving the students skills to detect the presence of hazardous materials. The instruction includes an overview of how incidents are classified into levels and on introductions to the Incident Command System. Also covered are the roles and notification requirements of municipal, county and state organizations. This level will serve as a prerequisite to all other levels offered in the series.
Hazardous Materials Awareness Refresher CEU’s (3)
A four-hour annual refresher course that meets the needs of public employees who respond to hazardous materials incidents at the Awareness level. Pre-requisite: Hazardous Materials Awareness
New Jersey State Police Level II Haz-Mat Operations CEU’s (4)
Hazardous Materials Operations is the second part of hazardous materials training meeting OSHA 1910.120 and NFPA 472. This course is designed to introduce the student to the chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials. This will enable the student to predict the possible behavior of these substances during a release. The student will become proficient in personal protective equipment, basic decontamination, substance control tactics and techniques, the different injuries associated with an exposure, and termination of a hazardous materials incident.
Prerequisite: Hazardous Materials Awareness
CBRNE Awareness (Formerly WMD) Elective CEU’s (4)
This is a four hour course that will be presented as a classroom lecture. It is designed for first responders who operate at the awareness level. The lecture will familiarize students with the recognition of weapons of mass destruction, terrorism and the defensive actions they may use in a response to a terrorist incident. The course will review basic awareness level response principles.
Prerequisite: HazMat Awareness
CBRNE Operation (Formerly WMD) Elective CEU’s (4)
This is a four-hour course designed by the New Jersey State Police, Special Operations Section –Hazardous Material Response Unit. The purpose of this course is to train the student to the Domestic Preparedness Operations level. These classes are designed to increase the depth of knowledge of responders when confronted with the challenges created by a terrorist attack using Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosive weapons. Prerequisite: Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations or CBRNE Awareness
Fire/EMS Refresher Classes
Core 13 (24) CORE CEU’s
This program is a refresher of your core EMT skills. The twelve modules are designed to review the core curriculum of the EMT program. These modules will include both written and practical testing when applicable. The student will have to successfully pass the written final exam and practical skill stations to pass this course. Prerequisite: EMT-B
Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher
This 2 hour class will cover topics under OSHA 1910.1030 for annual refreshers for blood borne pathogens.
Stairwell Belays CEU's TBA
This 8 hour class is geared towards emergency medical and fire departments. This course will cover how to safely belay a patient down a stairwell, and how to properly haul a patient up a stairwell. The students will conduct hands on evolutions at a building of their discretion. During this class the student will learn ropes and knots, anchor points, belay systems and hauling systems. Please be advised that this is not a rope rescue course, this is simply a class to assist EMT’s and firefighters to properly remove a patient via a stairwell using a stokes or a SKED.
HAZ-COM/RTK Refresher
This 2 hour class will cover topics under OSHA 1910.120 for annual refreshers for hazard communication/ RTK.
