Well...the title says it all and it is true.
For those who like to see consolidation...
District 29 fire companies, Chatsworth and Lebanon Lakes have merged to form the Woodland Emergency Services. It's great to finally have gotten this far with the support of the members and the township and especially the residents of Woodland.
I personally know it's been a long time coming for my father and Chief Toth as they have been supporting this and pushing for it for almost a decade now.
The merger has changed a few things around officer wise.
Township Chief 2900:Chief Toth Township Deputy Chief 2901: Walt Leap
Each station has a "Chief" but is classed as a Township Battalion Chief
Station 291 Battalion Chief 2910:-Vacant- Station 292 Battalion Chief 2920: Chip Morse

We have been down this road several times and it is not an easy one. If there is anything we can do to help with questions, policies, advice etc. please feel free to ask or call me.

Definitely will keep that in mind Chief. I've seen how ugly mergers/consolidations can become but we're hoping things roll smooth. As they are right now.

9000 is right. It is a hard road. In the last 10 years, I have watched my department go from being 3 seperate fire companies, each with their own officers and bylaws to one company, under one roof, with one purpose.. To serve the residents of Florence Twp. and our surrounding communities We took on EMS and eliminated a total of five sandboxes. We went from rotating chiefs to a career chief, Career fire official, along with career staffing during daytime hours. Elected line officers is a thing of the past as we now appoint officers based on qualifications and interviews. The road was long and hard but the victory was sweet. Yes, at times, it got rough and feathers ruffled, but the end result is we provide a better service to our residents. Is it perfect now? No, it isnt, but we keep building on everything we learn, both good and bad. Will it ever be perfect??? No, but if you show me a perfect department, I'll show you a liar! One hint... Dont ever forget your history or where you came from to get to this point. One of our biggest challenges was winning over alot of our older members, guys who in some cases built our old firehouses. We made sure to honor our history and we have a lot to show for it, including many veteran members showing up at monthly meetings and still trying to be involved in both the company and the community! The best part is, that for the most part, it was never forced. The members and community were shown that deep down, this was the best thing for everyone and it happened. I am proud to have been a part of it. Best of luck and if there is anything I can help with, let me know.

I see by the course roster that we have a good showing from Woodland for the next EMT-Basic class at the ESTC.
I hope that they're all ready to learn, and come to class with an open mind and a good attitude. Make sure they're all ready to work and study hard! It's a long class and we want everyone to make it through and be the best EMT's possible!
This merger is a chance to really do some good for your community! Best of luck!
I look forward to instructing them!

well, i can vouch that you wont let them be anything but the best EMT's possible tremp. and its good to see dist 29 see a problem and fix it before it got too ugly, and did it without alienating everyone from one of the departments involved. congrats and goodluck
