For those interested, NIOSH issued their final report on the 9/18/07 Super Sofa Store fire that claimed nine brothers. I haven't sat down to read it completely yet, but did scan the recommendations which is pretty much a "must do" checklist. Here's the link: www.cdc.gov/niosh/fire/reports/face200718.htmlAs I told my firefighters last night, I have the feeling that this report will eventually become a very important milestone for the fire service....

Just a short note for you NIOSH readers: this is the first report that includes a recommendation for Federal and state occupational safety agencies to outright adopt and enforce NFPA standards. As you might know, the standards are rarely adopted wholesale, most state agencies preferring to take bits and pieces of them. If anyone at the national or state level is paying close attention, this could turn out to be the watershed report I mentioned in my earlier post.
To climb onto my soapbox for jsut a moment: another recurring recommendation that's showing up is to have an ISO at working jobs...again, this is a situation that seems to be gaining momentum....does your department have an ISO or is one appointed at each working job?
