This was mailed to me by my cousin. I thought it was pretty good and wanted to share it with you guys.
"Gentlemen, the days of the fire department checker playing are gone. Firefighters work constantly for fifty-two hours per week." You will be paid the same amount as a garbage truck driver. You will be told what to wear and how to wear it, when to cut your hair, where to go, what to do and what to say. The fire service is not an easy or well paying job. You will receive no recognition for being a hero. You will not be rewarded for saving a life. You will not make mistakes in your job; someone's life may depend on your ability. If you make a mistake and cost someone their life, you will be ridiculed and must live with your guilt. You are merely a city employee number until someone needs you to save their life at the risk of your own. When your job is done, you are a city employee number again. There is no individual recognition when fighting fires. When you enter a burning building, you will watch for four things: victims, fellow firefighters, your own safety, and the fire. I don't know why you or anyone else would want to be a firefighter. I know why I'm here, but that's my business. You have one good thing in your favor. God watches winos, firefighters, and other fools."
