I joined in 2002 when I was 16. I never really noticed the firehouse or firefighters as a kid. I was never interested in it. Wanted nothing to do with it. Then I saw what happened on 9-11, saw the firefighters there and saw all the ones that got killed. Guess it was kinda an inspiration to me. I called the fire house a few weeks later and i joined the following spring. Ever since, I cant get enough of it. I love going to the firehouse and being around the family.

Well, I guess like most, it started when I was a kid. Back in the 60's most of my cousins (Dad's side) are/were philly cops. The rest of the family....well....go figure it out. It was in South Philly! LOL!! All my Mom's brothers were with ambulance squads or Volly depts. My Grandfather helped build Boothwyn PA's ambulace building. Since I spent more time with my Mom's side of the family, one of the uncles would always come and get me and cart me off to the station. If I was really lucky I'd get to "go on a call". Most times I'd help wash a truck, clean up around the station and what not. When there was nothing to do, I'd get to walk across the street with my uncle to his friend the undertaker. There's some sights that'll stick with ya for a lifetime!!!!!! Anyway, it's in my blood, so when I got maried, we moved next door to 201, and so my "career" as a volly got started 15 years ago. I joined as a fire police officer. If I knew then, what I know now, I'd be a firefighter. But....that's what son's are for. I think right now, since my son has joined I get more pleasure watching the "B" Shift take him under their wing and groom him to the best that he can be, than I do anything else at the station. He's making me proud and I can't ask for anything more. Damn....this is a great thing!!!!!!!

I did not have any family in the Dept. but was in High School when a good friend of mine told me he joined the Pennsauken Fire Dept. station 11-6 and asked if I wanted to join. I got to know Chief Dukes from those days when he was a Fire Marshall and also went into Camden several times. I jumped on the chance, that was 1978 and was bitten right away. Was there for about 71/2 yrs and took a break, mainly because of a certain @#@%%$ officer, and was gone for quite a while but always got up when I heard those sirens. Then moved to West Deptford when my wife had our daughter and talked to a member of 62, Verga ,joined there for another 1 1/2 yrs and moved to Moorestown and joined in 1997. Have always loved crawling around and looking for the fire it is something I hope to be able to do for a long time, like 3105, stone age days. Now a Capt. at station 312. The brotherhood from Pennsauken days is what really made it worth while and I still see some of those guys who are still in the Fire Dept. God I love firefighting but it is not the same as far as the commitment was back then, guys don't have the bug like we did, some of the guys do but not the same.

I got started in the service when i was 14...i joined 232 because my mom use to be the receptionist for the hall rentals at the old building...so i pretty much grew up in the station and when i was old enough to join i did just that! I still am active there as well as Cinnaminson. I joined Cinn-City back in June and enjoy it just as much as D-Town.

i officially wanted to do law enforcement as my career, so someone told me to start doing something for your community and volunteer to get my name out there. people told me, why not volunteer to be a fireman? i had to think deep and hard about that choice. during my search to do something for the community, later on I found out that one of my best friends became a firefighter and I didnt know he became one. he started out in Washington Twp (Robbinsville) and came out to Mount Holly 501 and has been there since, but he is more on the EMS side now than fire. but hanging out with him at washington twp fire dept has been a hell of an experience. of course when you knew nothing about the fire service, you thought all firefighters did was play with hose and put out fires. but being with some of those firefighters, it was a lot more than that, and it made me re-think about these guys. showed me what the guys of the fire service do everyday and what they are all about! doing a couple ride alongs with them really got me thinking more on the fire side. the more time I spent with my best friend and hanging out with the guys at Robbinsville, made me decide to finally become a fireman and I never looked back! the more I've done the fire side, the more the dream of doing law enforcement has slowly gone away. after I became a fireman, come to find out that one of my great uncles was a fireman back in the old days of riding on the diamond plate, and jumping into buildings without airpacks. he was a volunteer fireman for a good 15 years. I just recently saw old historic photos of him and I was amazed. sadly I never got to meet him, for he died shy 3 months of me being born.
but at this point, ive gone to school for CJ and have trained in the fire service. but as I look further into the future, I see my heart desiring towards being a career firefighter than a police officer. two great careers, but when I look at myself in the mirror every morning, I dont see myself wearing the badge.

Well since i grew up next to one's in cinnaminson, and my dad being a volunteer my whole life, i think thats what got me started. I eventually joined when i was about 14 as an explorer. it was definitely one of the best decisions of my life. There are so many people that taught me and got me to know what i know. But B-shift has definitely taught me a good amount and taking me under their wing. As far i think my future goes in the fire dept. i hope to move up in the ranks and possibly become career one day.

First and only generation in the fire / EMS services. I guess I got the bug way back in the early 70's by watching "Emergency!" Then one of my best friend's father was a member of 361, and several of my friends joind the Masonville Fire Company together in 1980. Started running with Masonville Emergency Squad (now MLEMS) back in 1984.
But Emergency! had a huge effect on my decision to do what I do now for a living!

I have no real connections to the firehouse.... No family in the firehouse...I just joined because I had nothing better to do at the time. A few of my friends in high school were members at the fire house, and I tried to join as a junior, but my parents would not let me, so I forgot all about it. Then after I graduated, I was sitting around the house doing nothing, and my Mom told me to get off my ass and join the fire house. Now its 10 years later, and I'm still doing the firefighter thing. I guess for the future, I would like to progress up the ranks at work, and retire safe and healthy. And unlike Jim, when I retire, I'm out, no being a pain in the ass old guy. I'm done, and I don't want to hear a pager or house bells ever again. yup pretty much how i started except that my mom refused till this day not to continue being a firefights saying "your gonna get yourself hurt of killed one day" you do not understand how many times she's been saying "i told you so" now..lol
