Anyone have any thoughts as to why? At first I chalked it up to summertime..there are a whole lot of more interesting things to do in nice weather than to pound a keyboard, but I guess that theory will be tested in the next few weeks.
Could it be just staleness? Nothing "meaty" to sink our collective teeth into? No controversy to stir up a string of emotional outbursts? A lack of Make the Calls (I thought that was getting stale).
Do we need something else to get folks to tune in again?
Check in with your thoughts....

I check in every couple days or so (mostly from work). There's definitely been a downturn in activity. Some of it can be chalked up to summer but I think part of it is that the newness has worn off slightly.
I know for me the biggest draw is the MTC and tactics discussions. Those were outstanding but they also seemed to stale quickly as posters fell into a routine. They're also a lot of work from your end to keep them fresh/moving..etc.
I was surprised there weren't any postings related to last weekend's storm (though maybe because it was a bit of a dud? not sure). Also, no mention of Wildwood?
Maybe we need to start a smooth-bore vs TFT debate? My blue-light is bigger than yours? Maybe we need a happy-hour soon?

They each have their uses! Was that a good political answer?

NOPE, nothing better than a smooth bore......... on the subject of staleness- just not much going on, we all check in at least once a week but i think not much has happened since july in the county and would be the cause for the slow down. i think it will pick back up.....

I'll help pick things up by kicking in the conversational door....LOL
Regarding the obvious provocation of tootall on the topic of smoothbore versus automatic: you are, sir, quite correct: they each have their specific applications. I have watched this "obsession" with smoothbores from afar and can't help but shake my head in wonder; how soon we forget the past!
One of the chief reasons that automatics were developed back in the 40's was because smoothbores - the only nozzle the fire service had used since Ben Frankin was in diapers - were almost completely inadequate for flammable liquid fires, as the Navy proved during WW2. After the war was over, all the Navy vets who were first introduced to the fog concept began tinkering with the notion that it would prove useful for common combustible fires - which it could, to a point.
Fast forward to the golden age of firefighting, the years of "America Burning" during the sixties and seventies, when jobs were as plentiful as flies at a picnic (or lawn ornaments at a working job). Fog or automatic nozzle fanatics were (like their modern day smoothbore counterparts), totally obsessed with the notion of putting out tons of fire with an eyedropper's worth of water. "Fog saves water and minimizes damage" was the party line back then, completely disregarding two of fog's most crucial disadvantages: penetration and the uncanny ability to turn into steam. Back then, we young bucks were told NEVER to actually enter the fire room, but instead to use it like a pressure vessel...introduce a fog stream, shut the door, set the egg timer to 30 seconds and "bing", the fire was knocked down.
All that worked - and I might add, worked reasonably well, until the arrival of Wally World (Wal Mart) and the Great Plastics Invasion of the late seventies/early eighties, when the percentage per square foot of solid hydrocarbons in your typical room and contents soared off the charts. Suddenly, fog doesn't cut it anymore....and worse yet, we forgot the basic concept of not entering the fire room, thus increasing the number of steamed lobsters walking around after a particularly tough job.
Enter the smoothbore - or put it another way, return to the smoothbore, which addressed fog's weaknesses. The increased Wally World fire loading desperately required the smoothbore's reach, punch, and penetration. It's reintroduction started the Great Nozzle Debate between two armed camps which I still find totally baffling.
Can anyone say "Full circle"? LOL.
Fog certainly does have a few viable applications:flammable liquids, car fires, hydraulic ventilation, protection streams...but certainly not in structures (except for the back up line). This shouldn't be a discussion about "which is better", but of "when each are needed".
And you smoothbore guys: don't tell me that you can pull the bail halfway back and get a decent fog.....please. And you fog fanatics, repeat after me: Stay out of the F'ing room!

Chesse- accually you put your thumb over the tip like a garden hose to get the fog pattern......... the half way bail thing was just a cover up until we could think of something better!lol
